About us

Bread + Roses is an enterprise of The Bradford Co-operative Association Ltd, which aims to build a co-operative platform of opportunities, resources, skills, and services for the benefit of our members and the people of Bradford.

We are proud to be part of a global co-operative movement, towards a fairer, more equal and more rewarding way of working. In August 2018, the co-operative opened Bread + Roses – a vegetarian / vegan cafe, events venue and coworking space.

Guided by a commitment to building stronger, united and resilient communities, our aim is to create a positive and supportive space for the people of Bradford to come together.

Community ownership of the co-operative

As an employee or volunteer at Bread + Roses you will be eligible to become a member of our co-operative, thus giving you ownership and a say over how the business is run.

Our members have a say over how the organisation is run and developed, and also gain other benefits such as discounts on our products and services.

For more information about our co-operative principles and how you can become a member, check out our Join page here.

Voluntary Roles

Board Members and Advisors

Bradford Co-operative Association (BCA) is looking for board members and advisors to help us rebuild post-Covid and develop our plans for the future. We are interested in individuals from all walks of life who believe in our cooperative vision and believe they can bring skills, ideas, and energy to the table.

We are seeking to elect internal board members from our membership and appoint external board members. The approximate commitment asked of board members is 4 hours per month. However, many of those who have previously served on our board have chosen to commit more time through leading or supporting our Working Groups and helping to deliver key projects. We ask board members to serve for a minimum of two years.

We are interested in hearing from people with skills, knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Business leadership, including HR and financial management
  • Cooperatives and membership
  • Funding
  • The third sector
  • Community development
  • Strategy and planning

If you would be interested in supporting BCA with your professional experience and knowledge but feel this commitment might be too much, we also maintain a roster of advisors that we call on intermittently for expert impartial support or to help us with particularly challenging projects and problems.

To register your interest please send a short personal overview and CV to owen@thebreadandroses.coop.
